Qadri denies ordering killing of ‘revolution deserters’

LAHORE: Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) chief Tahirul Qadri on Monday denied asking his workers to kill those abandoning his “revolution march” until the change of the system while arguing that the statement was meant for him and PTI chief Imran Khan only. Addressing a press conference at Mihajul Quran, Qadri said media distorted his statements. He showed copies of several national newspapers and read from reports that stated he had called on workers to martyr (kill) those who would leave his movement until the change of the system. He said the statement was only with reference to him and Imran Khan, not his party supporters. He alleged that the Punjab government was distorting the facts while claiming that many journalists misquoted him. On Sunday a fiery Qadri had urged his workers not to spare the policemen if they attack them and creat hurdles in their way. He had also ordered his workers to take revenge from Sharif brothers and their family in case he was killed. With mentioning himself and Imran he had said, “Qadri also told his workers that the one who would return from the march before the change of the system should be martyred (killed).” Meanwhile, a large number of PAT activists arrived at Minhajul Quran Secretariat from different cities ahead of ‘Revolution March’ scheduled on August 14. Currently, a large number of protesters including women are camping outside the Minhajul Quran.
