LAHORE – Opposition Leader in Punjab Assembly Mian Mahmoodur Rashid has written a letter to the Inspector General of Punjab Police to protest against what he said political victimization of the workers of the political parties, particularly workers of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
In his letter, Mian Rashid said after the declaration by PTI to take out a peaceful ‘Azadi March’ on the occasion of the independence day of Pakistan, its political workers are being brutally victimized by the police across Punjab. They were being arrested and kept in unlawful custody without lodging FIRs.
The Lahore High Court (LHC) has already taken note of this fact and has asked the Punjab police to provide details of the arrested workers. Despite, the notice of the LHC the police action against PTI and other political parties was continuing, he said.
He said that the Punjab police was going beyond its legal and moral authority to deal with the public in general and the political workers in particular. He asked the police chief to direct the police force to conduct itself in a neutral manner and in accordance with the Articles 15 and 16 f the constitution which guarantees every citizen the right to freedom of movement and right to assembly peacefully.
