ISLAMABAD: The Parliamentary Committee on Judges Appointment during its meeting on Tuesday with Senator Rafique Rajwana in the chair endorsed all of the nominations made by the Judicial Commission (JC) for appointments to superior courts.
The committee approved the appointment of Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice Umer Atta Bandial as a judge of the Supreme Court.
Similarly, it endorsed the appointment of Justice Khawaja Imtiaz as chief justice of the LHC.
The meeting also approved the nomination of Advocate Athar Minallah as additional judge of the Islamabad High Court (IHC).
During its meeting on May 28, the JC had recommended the appointment of two judges and Advocate Minallah to new positions. Advocate Minallah has been hitting the headlines since lawyers’ movement for the restoration of former chief justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry in 2007.
He is considered as a close aide of the former CJP. He also served as spokesperson for the CJP during the restoration movement.
