ISLAMABAD: The Interior Ministry has directed the law enforcement agencies to enhance the security of Chinese professionals working on different projects in Pakistan.
The directions follow an intelligence report that recommended the ministry and relevant provincial departments to improve the security of the Chinese nationals.
The report said foreign terrorist elements were out to target Chinese citizens in Pakistan. Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) could also target them, it added.
The report says that Chinese nationals have not adopted proper security arrangements and are living in houses and guesthouses in the residential areas of Islamabad. It also cited some telephone calls originating from a neighbouring country that hinted at plans to attack Chinese professionals in Pakistan.
More than 1,900 Chinese engineers and construction professionals are working on different projects in Pakistan and some 45,000 more have obtained visas and are expected to arrive soon.
