KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Wednesday sacked party leader Qamar Mansoor. He has been relieved of all organisational responsibilities “owing to his mental and physical condition”. According to a statement issued on Wednesday, the decision was taken in a joint meeting of the MQM’s Karachi and London coordination committees and came hours after Rangers released Mansoor on “humanitarian grounds”. He was produced in a local anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Wednesday where the paramilitary troops submitted a report stating that he has been released on “humanitarian grounds” due to his illness. The MQM statement said “the coordination committees unanimously decided to relieve Qamar Mansoor owing to reservations expressed by him in a chat with the committee after being released by the Rangers”. It directed the party workers not to establish contact with Mansoor on organisational matters as per his will. A Rangers law officer submitted a report in the anti-terrorism court on the release of the MQM leader who, along with fellow Rabita Committee member Kaiful Wara, had been picked up by the authorities in a pre-dawn raid on July 17 at the party’s headquarters, Nine Zero. Wara was released soon on the assurance that he would report to Rangers after Eid.
