ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Monday directed Attorney General Salman Aslam Butt to inform the court about government’s point of view in cases involving Geo Network and also summoned advocates general (AGs) of four provinces on the next hearing in this connection.
A two-member bench headed by Justice Gulzar Ahmed heard the petition filed by Geo Network.
Akram Sheikh, counsel for the media network, requested the court to consolidate all of the cases registered in different courts against Geo Network throughout the country. The court remarked that it was a provincial issue; therefore, appropriate forums for this purpose were high courts.
The attorney general submitted that cases against Geo Network were under investigation and pleaded for more time to finalise findings in this regard. He also requested the court to summon the provincial AGs to apprise the court of progress in investigation into cases against Geo Network.
After hearing the arguments, the bench directed the four AGs to submit a detailed report regarding progress in investigation into cases against Geo Network and adjourned the hearing for next week.
