Court puts NACTA under PM’s control

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday removed the head of National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) Khawaja Muhammad Ashraf and delegated its control to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
Justice Noorul Haq heard the petition filed against NACTA and passed the verdict. He also revoked the decisions made during Ashraf’s tenure. The government had appointed Amir Ashraf Khawaja, earlier on January 3, 2014, a BPS-20 officer, as national coordinator. According to reports, National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) was established in 2009 but was unable to function due to federal government’s insufficient funding. Last year, the government had introduced the National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) act in order to strengthen efforts to counter terrorism.
