LAHORE: Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) has started its weeklong Independence Day celebrations with organisation of a Holy Quran recitation (Qira’at) competition among students of authority’s schools at its auditorium on Saturday.
In another event, sweets and flowers were distributed among patients at Wapda Teaching Hospital Complex, Lahore.
Other planned events include Na’at Khwani competition among Wapda schools, sports events at Wapda Sports Complex, tree plantation and hoisting of a 100x 40 feet national flag over Wapda House followed by a grand ceremony on August 14. Similar activities are also being arranged at Wapda formations outside Lahore and at various projects of the authority.
In Qir’at competition, Hafiz Umair Liaqat, of Wapda Boys High School, Shalamar Town, secured the first position, while Hafiza Ramsha Javed, of Wapda Girls High School, Shalamar Town, and Hafiz Hamza Hanif, of Wapda Boys High School, Shalamar Town, bagged the second and third position, respectively.
Wapda Member (Finance) Anwarul Haq, who was the chief guest, gave away trophies and cash prizes to position holders.
At Wapda Teaching Hospital Complex, Director General (Human Resource and Administration) Muhammad Zafar, on behalf of the authority, presented sweets and flowers to patients.
