KARACHI: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) staged a protest demonstration outside Karachi Press Club (KPC) denouncing Amnesty International (AI)’s reports.
Terming the report ‘baseless and fabricated’ MQM leaders rejected all allegations and called it a ‘pack of lies’.
A large number of party workers including martyred MQM’s family members participated in the protest and chanted slogans against the AI.
The MQM leaders said dozens of party workers had been arrested and later they were subjected to extra judicial murders, but the AI report did not mention these human rights violations in its report.
They were of the view for the past 22 years, the AI had been trying to portray the MQM as a mafia and its workers as killers while it depicted the killers of MQM workers as innocent and oppressed people. Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui deputy convener of MQM’s Rabita Committee termed the report a conspiracy against the party and its chief Altaf Hussain.
Many such conspiracies to dismantle MQM were foiled in the past and those dreaming to damage MQM could not succeed in their evil designs.
He said MQM founder leader Altaf Hussain was the representative of 98 percent poor masses of the country. People of Karachi would react strongly if any harm was done to Hussain, he warned.
He said they have presented their case in the court of masses and they would continue to fight for the rights of poor and dispossessed. He said the report of AI was an international conspiracy against MQM.
Today people from Karachi have responded against false report by staging a protest. AI should answer why does it close eyes on October 31, 1986, September 30, 1988, Pakka Qila incidents Hyderabad and June 19, 1992 operation in which thousands of MQM workers were killed.
MQM leader Haider Abbas Rizvi, Abdul Haseeb Khan, Rauf Siddiqui and others condemned the AI”s report. They said report was impartial and it has hurt the feelings of millions of MQM workers. AI report is fabricated but it cannot mislead the MQM workers. They said AI could not see the extra judicial murders of MQM workers in Karachi. Your lie is being unfolded against the millions of people. We cannot astray from your report, they added.
