QUETTA: The bereaved families of martyred policemen in Balochistan are an integral part of our institutional family, said Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Police Training and well-known scholar and writer, Fasihuddin.
Talking to a group of journalists and columnists in Quetta, he told that the Inspector General of Police, Balochistan, Mushtaq Ahmed Sukhaira has issued numerous directions, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Standing Orders for the welfare of the Shuhada-e-Balochistan Police. The AIG said that a comprehensive policy has been issued by the IGP in September, 2013 which is widely publicized to the bereaved families. The Policy vide SOP No.4 is thoroughly evaluated and strictly implemented by the Police Department.
The policy includes regular visits to the families of the Shuhada by respective RPOs and DPOs in Balochistan who would listen to the problems of the legal heirs of the Shuhada and then send a report to the IGP for consideration if the required action needs a decision by the PPO. The IGP has created one separate unit for the welfare of Shuhada at CPO, Quetta which is headed by an officer of the ranks of DSP. The DSP has to ensure the payment of compensation and other benefits to the deserving members of the bereaved family.
The AIG told that since 1979 till 31st May, 2014, a total of 606 police officials have laid their lives in the line of duty and for the honour of their country and nation. “This is not a small number of human losses as compared to other provinces, given the limited role of police to A areas and lesser population of Balochistan,” Fasihuddin (PSP) stated. The unprecedented sacrifices of the Balochistan Police are now to be recorded in a compendium with full details of the Shuhada and the actions taken by the Balochistan Police for their welfare.
A Committee has been constituted under the Chairmanship of AIG (Training) and comprising of AIG Welfare Mr. Jaffar Hussain, Mr. Zahid Afaq, SP (Special Branch), DSP Shuhada, Mr. Barakat and Mr. Naveed Hashmi, a famous writer and publisher. “This historical document will be a message of pride, services, sacrifice and commitment of the Balochistan Police for the country and nation” Mr. Fasihuddin told the journalists. He also stated that as far as the compensation and other welfare benefits to Shuhada are concerned, the Balochistan Police are provided more benefits than any other province in the country.
