Firing in jirga leaves three tribesmen dead

PESHAWAR – At least three people were killed and eight others wounded due to firing between two groups at a peace Jirga in Upper Kurram Agency, an official said on Wednesday.

Assistant Political Agent Upper Kurram, Maqsoodul Hassan told APP on phone that a peace jirga was underway between two groups to settle land dispute in Gaidur area when rivals started firing after exchange of hot words at each others. As a result, three persons were killed and eight others injured. He said casualty figure may rise as condition of few victims is stated to be critical.

The political administration officials and Khasadar Force rushed to the spot and started investigation. However, independent sources have claimed killing of six persons and injuries to 13.
