KP Police pioneers emotional quotience test

PESHAWAR: After completion of physical endurance and written test for recruitment to the post of constable, carried out through National Testing Service (NTS), the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Police has decided to evaluate the emotional intelligence of successful candidates before final enlisting.
“The emotional intelligence test has been introduced for the first time as a substitute for the interview in order to eliminate the element of discretion and nepotism,” a statement from KP Police spokesman said on Friday. The emotional intelligence test will be conducted by a panel comprising of specialised psychologists, concerned RPO and concerned DPO and a workshop of around 12 specialised psychologists was held in the Central Police Office on Friday during which they were briefed by the DIG training, DIG headquarters and AIG establishment about the requirements of the police department and the expected level of emotional intelligence that KP police expects to have in its recruits. After the workshop, the participants also held a meeting with the KP Police Chief Nasir Khan Durrani. The chief said that the inclusion of specialised individuals with the objective of ascertaining the candidate’s emotional intelligence and inclination towards extremism will have multiple benefits for the force as it will ensure an end to favouritism and also ensure that appropriate men are selected for the job.
