LAHORE – Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday issued stay order for coal power project approved by the Punjab government in Sheikhupura.
A plea was filed against the power project by local environmentalists citing the fact that it will increase environmental pollution in the city. District Coordination Office admitted in the court that environmental hazards of the project were not assessed before approving it.
The court ultimately halted the project for now, stating that the court cannot allow anybody to play with the health of local people. The government had allotted 9,000 acres of land for this project in Sheikhupura.
