ISLAMABAD: A local court on Monday directed the issuance of arrest warrant against Mubashir Lucman, a private TV anchor. Additional Session Judge Wajid Ali was hearing the criminal case initiated by the Independent Media Corporation (IMC) and Independent Newspapers Corporation (INC) against Lucman for defaming Jang/Geo Group in his talk show ‘Khara Sach’.
The court had summoned Lucman to appear in the hearing; however, the anchor did not appear in the court today. Resultantly, the court issued bailable arrest warrants for the TV anchor.
The judge remarked that if the court found out that the anchor is intentionally defying the court orders, then other options can be used if necessary. Lucman stands accused of defaming senior court judges, public officials, and a media group during his shows on television.
Lucman was indicted in the case by the Independent Media Corporation and Independent Newspapers Corporation. Earlier, the Islamabad High Court barred him from anchoring his shows on a private TV channel. The judge has adjourned the hearing of the case up till September 6.
