KARACHI – Abdul Sattar Edhi, a prominent philanthropist, social activist and humanitarian, on Tuesday admitted in the Intensive Care Unit due to ill health.
Edhi’s kidneys had failed last year and doctors had stated that he would be on dialysis for the rest of his life. People pray for swift recovery of the philanthropist. Edhi is the founder of Edhi Foundation, a non-profit social welfare organisation in Pakistan.
Changing famous phrase ‘live and let live’ to ‘live and help live,’ the foundation helps people from all races, religions, castes and colour without any discrimination. Edhi has been helping people since the past 56 years and has gained the love and affection of all people irrespective of religion.
In 1985, Edhi received the Nishan-e-Imtiaz from the government of Pakistan. In 2010, Edhi was also awarded an honorary degree of doctorate by the University of Bedfordshire.
