ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Friday vacated the stay orders of the Lahore High Court (LHC) regarding the verifications of thumb impressions of the voters during general elections of May,11 2013, in NA-154, District Lodhran-I.
A three-member bench of the top court headed by Justice Anwar Zaheere Jamali while hearing the petition filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) General Secretary Jahangir Tareen, directed the suspension of stay orders of the LHC.
Similarly, the apex court ordered the Election Tribunal (ET) to hold its proceedings of thumb prints verifications on daily basis in the constituency NA-154 and submit the detailed report and its findings before the top court.
According to details, during last general elections, the petitioner, PTI candidate (Jahangir Tareen) was runner-up while Siddique Baloch, a candidate of PML-N was declared as victorious in election results announced by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
According to official results of the NA-154, the winning candidate bagged 86,177 votes while the runner-up bagged 75,955 votes during the last year’s general polls.
