LAHORE: Provincial Minister for Human Rights and Minorities Affairs Khalil Tahir Sandhu has said that Punjab government is endeavouring to provide equal opportunities to minorities in all sectors. Addressing a Christmas dinner hosted in the honour of ambassadors and diplomats of different countries here on Friday, the minister said that the Human Rights and Minorities Affairs Department had ensured 5% quota in all government jobs for minorities and financial assistance of Rs 5,000 was being provided to deserving minorities families. “Extensive legislation for protection of children and women rights along with elimination of bounded labour are key achievements of the government,” Sandhu added. He said a special task force had been set up in the province in collaboration with local communities in all districts of the province to monitor any possible human rights violation and its redressal. He also briefed ambassadors and diplomats about the action being taken by the Punjab government in accordance with National Action Plan. Ambassador Delegation of the European Union to Pakistan Jean-Francois Cautain appreciated spirit and gesture of the minister, who had always honoured diplomats by arranging Christmas dinner every year. He also appreciated the Punjab government efforts for protection of human rights and other similar measures for welfare of minorities.
