Killing in the name of honour un-Islamic: fatwa

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC) on Thursday passed a fatwa that says that killing in the name of honour is illegal, against Islamic wisdom and liable to be punished. The decree was passed by the PUC during the National Conference. During the four sessions of the conference, political leaders and representatives of different religions and sects delivered their speeches and agreed that killing in the name of honour was illegal and liable to be punished. It noted illiterate, innate people were killing their daughters for such so-called honour, while some people ill-treat and abuse women who give birth to girls, which is also illegal and against Islamic teachings. Likewise, foreign diplomats also expressed their views and said the dialogue was the only source to achieve the goal of peace. Speaking on the occasion PUC Chairman Tahir Ashrafi said that thousands of Islamic scholars, clerics, mosques and seminaries, students and philosophers affiliated with the PUC were of the opinion that dialogue was the only way to resolve issues, and such killings were against the Islamic teachings as well.
