Tribunal orders re-electionin PP-97

GUJRANWALA: On Tuesday, a local election tribunal declared the voting results in PP-97 null and void and ordered re-election in 33 polling stations in the Punjab Assembly constituency won by the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s candidate in Gujranwala. The tribunal issued its orders on a petition filed by PML-Q’s Hamid Chima who had challenged victory of PML-N’s Chaudhry Muhammad Ashraf Warraich, claiming rigging in the election. After finding proofs of rigging, the tribunal finally invalidated voting results in the PP-97 (Gujranwala-VII) and directed the authorities to hold re-election in 33 polling stations. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Chairman, Imran Khan blamed the ruling party for massive frauds in the last year’s general elections in Punjab.
