Zardari for immediate resolution of political standoff

ISLAMABAD: Former president Asif Ali Zardari on Thursday expressed deep regrets over the inability of all sides to end the standoff in Islamabad which, he said, has resulted in the most unfortunate setback to Pakistan’s relations with China manifested by the postponement of the scheduled visit to the country of the Chinese president. He called upon the government to seek an immediate rescheduling of the visit of Chinese president, according to a statement of party. Zardari also called for an immediate and peaceful resolution of the standoff in the federal capital. He also invited the Chaudhry brothers for a luncheon meeting. Zardari urged Chaudhry Shujaat to convince Tahirul Qadri to show some flexibility to resolve the political impasse. The two sides also deliberated upon the efforts to resolve the matter through negotiations and said that these should not be given up but expedited to find out a solution. PPP leaders Sherry Rehman and Nayyar Bokhari accompanied Zardari in the meeting.
