Standoff set to resolve in 48 hours: minister

ISLAMABAD: Defence Minister Khawaja Asif on Thursday hoped that the prevailing political standoff will be resolved within the next 48 hours after some progress was made by opposition parties in soothing protesting Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT). Talking to media after a joint sitting of parliament, Defence Minister Khawaja said that negotiations with the two protesting parties are underway and disputes would be resolved by bringing the warring parties to agree on a draft incorporating the demands and response of the government. The defence minister hoped that the crisis will be resolved in the next 48 hours and sit-ins will end by that time. The PML-N government is relying on the opposition parties-led jirga to bring the PTI and PAT in agreement. According to reports, some progress has been achieved in moving towards the resolution of the political impasse.
