PESHAWAR – Ashiqullah Mehsud, a key ‘commander’ of the Tehreek-i-Taliban and an ‘expert’ of suicide bombings, was killed in a firing incident in North Waziristan tribal region, a private news channel reported.
Mehsud was killed in Mir Ali area. Both official and tribal sources confirmed that Ashiqullah Mehsud was the main ‘commander’ of the militia and was considered the master trainer of the suicide bombing after Qari Hussain Mehsud.
Qari Mehsud was considered inventor of the suicide bomb blasts. Ashiqullah was sitting with some Taliban members when he was assaulted by the gunmen who then escaped in a car. Intelligence sources believe that the incident was the result of a rivalry between Sheharyar Mehsud and Khan Said Sajna groups.
The latter also parted ways with the central Taliban group. None of the groups have claimed responsibility for the attack yet. Also, no statement has been issued by the Tehreek-e-Taliban about Ashiqullah’s death so far.
The late ‘commander’ was considered the successor of Qari Hussain and the top trainer of bombers and explosives within the Taliban circles.
