ISLAMABAD - Interior Minister Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan on Tuesday said that the imposition of Article 245 was not linked to any political protest or sit-in, rather the deployment of army was purely strategic and to counter any terrorist activity.
Winding up discussion in the National Assembly, the minister said the imposition of Article 245 was constitutional under which the army had been deployed to help civil armed forces in case of any threat to law and order, and security.
"I assure the House that such deployment has no political motive, but it is purely an operational and strategic decision to protect sensitive areas in the Capital and Rawalpindi city," he added.
The minister asked the opposition members not to exploit the decision for playing politics rather see it in other perspective as it had been done 24 times in the past, but without clarity.
The minister said, "What we have done is purely constitutional and legal wherein it has also been clarified as to how the forces will operate and under which law and whose guidance."
