ISLAMABAD: Planning and Development Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal on Wednesday said that an FIR of the Model Town incident has been registered as demanded by the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT), and members of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have also come on the floor of the assembly today (Wednesday), it is hoped that these parties will soon end their sit-ins in Islamabad.
Addressing a press conference, the minister alleged that PTI sold out its tickets, due to which it lost the elections. He inquired how a party could improve the country “when it cannot eliminate its own mistakes”. He criticised that today (Wednesday) the PTI members presented their stance in parliament, which was labelled illegal and unconstitutional.
He said, “There is no substance in the allegations of rigging being levelled by the PTI leader Imran Khan as fairness of 2013 general elections was acknowledged by neutral observers. He said, “It was ridiculous to say that the caretakers appointed by PPP government paved the way for PML-N’s victory. Ahsan Iqbal said that for the first time the Election Commission was appointed through a national consensus.
“About PTI’s initial demand for opening of four constituencies,” he said, “It was within the powers of the Election Tribunals and not the government.” Referring to Imran Khan’s complaint that the process of election petition disposal was slow, he reminded that he could not dispose of appeals against party elections in 18 months. He also asked that if his allegations of massive rigging in elections were correct then why didn’t he file petitions against fifty-out-of-one-thousand constituencies. Ahsan Iqbal said that the printing of ballot papers and their distribution was the army’s responsibility.
Even PTI chief Imran Khan was consulted on the appointment of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and he had expressed his satisfaction over Justice (retd) Fakhrudin G Ibrahim’s choice for the post, but now he was accusing him of electoral rigging, he added. “Imran Khan has no evidence of a ‘planned rigging’ and he is only deceiving the nation,” he remarked.
Ahsan Iqbal urged that the Chinese President’s visit should not be affected and if it is spoiled, it will be understood that these parties were instructed to sabotage the visit.
He also paid a tribute to the workers of PML-N, saying that they demonstrated utmost patience although the opponents tried to incite violence, by speaking ill about the PML-N leadership. He regretted the use of foul words by the PTI and PAT leadership.
PML-N minister said that the provocative speeches delivered by Dr Tahirul Qadri had reminded him of the sayings of Hitler and Mussolini, however he warned that PML-N is not an NGO and millions of people are affiliated with it countrywide.
Speaking on the occasion, Information Technology Minister Anusha Rehman said that Imran Khan should pay attention to resolve problems of his province. She said, “The sit-ins have ignored the miseries of the IDPs have left their homes for the country.
Speaking on the occasion, State Minister Muhammad Zubair said, “International institutions and media had predicted the victory of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz much before the general elections 2013. He also presented data of different TV channels on the night of polling day, showing a landslide win for the PML-N and on the basis of this data, Nawaz Sharif had made the victory speech on that night.
Minister for Science and Technology said an important tour of Chinese President was scheduled during which agreements worth billions of dollars will be signed but the sit-ins have also disturbed this schedule. He said that the government made all possible efforts to resolve the issue and is still will to resolve it. He said that the dialogue committee of the opposition is playing important role and expressed the hope that it will help to resolve the issue.
Minister of State Muhammad Zubair said that a number of international organizations in their reports have described the fairness of the elections and victory of PML-N. He said the ratings of international survey organizations are also in favour of Muhammad Nawaz Sharif. He said Imran Khan is talking about rigging in the elections but he has failed to prove his allegations.
