Auditor general forms inquiry committee on Lahore incident

ISLAMABAD: Auditor General of Pakistan (AGP) Muhammad Akhtar Buland Rana has constituted a fact-finding inquiry committee consisting of two BS-21 officers of AGP Office after taking serious notice of the incident occurred in Punjab Accountant General’s (AG) Office in Lahore on June 27. The incident was widely reported in the print and electronic media.
Javaid Jehangir, deputy auditor general (district audit), and Naghmana Ashfaq Sheikh, deputy auditor general (audit policy), are members of the inquiry committee. The TORs of the committee are: (i) to find out the causes of disturbance/law and order situation created on June 27 in Punjab AG Office in Lahore; (ii) to find out what were the real motives behind this untoward situation; (iii) to investigate why the doors of some of the officers posted in AG Office Lahore were broken and why the officers acted like hooligans as shown in the electronic media – forcing AG Punjab to relinquish charge; (iv) to investigate any fraud occurred in the office especially during the last days of the month of June; and (v) to investigate issuance of cheques against fake bills (as reported in the print media) and also to investigate the culprits behind these fraudulent activities.
