Dar urges to set up cheaper fuel based energy projects

ISLAMABAD – Minister for Finance Ishaq Dar has emphasized for a long-term integrated plan to overcome the power crisis.


He was addressing a high level meeting in Islamabad to discuss immediate and long-term power demand and generation capacity. The Finance Minister said that energy-mix needs to be improved to bring down generation cost to facilitate people and industry.


He said that the Ministry of Water and Power must recover outstanding bills against provinces within sixty days as per decisions made by the Council of Common Interests (CCI).


The meeting was informed that currently there is a shortfall of 4,000 megawatt in power generation and demand. It urged the need to set up cheaper fuel based energy projects to overcome the energy crisis.


Addressing the meeting, Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Asif said the government has improved electricity generation, transmission and distribution during the last one year.
