ISLAMABAD – Minister for Information and Broadcasting Senator Pervaiz Rashid has said the historic passage of the Protection of Pakistan Bill (PPB) would help eliminate terrorism, violence and sectarianism in Pakistan.
In a statement here, the minister felicitated the nation, parliamentary leaders of parties in Senate and the National Assembly, lauding their acumen for the smooth passage of the bill. He said the parliament had proved that the nation was united against terrorism and extremism.
He said that the unanimous passage of the bill from Senate, despite government's insufficient numerical strength there, showed the seriousness and maturity of political parties' regarding the issues of national importance. "Each and every member of the parliament has kept national interest supreme,” he said.
He said he was sure that the country's leadership would continue showing such maturity in tackling other national issues with mutual cooperation. It may be noted that the Protection of Pakistan Bill was already approved by the Senate on Monday whereas it sailed through the National Assembly on Wednesday. Now under the bill, strict action could be taken against those, who challenge the government's writ.
