Two more polio cases detected in Pakistan, toll reaches 104

Peshawar: The unvaccinated children in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and tribal areas continue to thwart global efforts of polio eradication as National Institute of Health, Islamabad confirmed two new cases on Saturday. The new cases took nationwide polio count to 104 this year, ahead of last year’s tally of 93 making it the highest number of polio cases among the three endemic countries. Poliovirus was detected in the eight-month-old Hafsa, resident of Bara subdivision of Khyber Agency and one-year-old Salma, resident of Peshawar was also found infected with virus.
