War and talks cannot go together: TTP

PESHAWAR: The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan warned on Thursday that the peace dialogue with the government might not yield the desired results if the state keeps using force as a tool.
“We are holding peace talks in the interest of Islam and Muslims. However, we will not allow the government to use these talks as a war or political tool,” the organisation said in a statement from spokesman Shahidullah Shahid. The statement was emailed to the newspapers’ offices. It comes a day after army chief Gen Raheel Sharif said the insurgents “must accept the state’s writ”. “War and talks cannot go together,” the statement read, adding that was it the Taliban’s “responsibility to make the talks successful”, a spokesman said.
