QUETTA: At least three Frontier Corps (FC) personnel were killed and seven others wounded in a roadside blast in Sorab area of Kalat district on Saturday.
“An FC patrol convoy was on way to Panjgur from Kalat district when attacked with a roadside improvised explosive device (IED) along the RCD Highway in Sorab,” an FC spokesman said. “At least three soldiers were martyred,” he said, adding seven others sustained splinter wounds in the attack.
One of the four FC vehicles was damaged in the blast. “The target was FC convoy,” senior police officer in Kalat Nazir Kurd said. The bodies and the injured were shifted to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Quetta. According to security officials, around six to eight kilogrammes of explosive material was used in the attack.
Rescue workers, bomb disposal squad and troops reached the scene and cordoned off the area. Nobody immediately claimed the responsibility.
Meanwhile, the FC claimed to have killed 10 suspects in Sui area of Dera Bugti after an exchange of fire during a search operation. “There was heavy exchange of fire between miscreants and FC. At least 10 miscreants were killed,” FC Spokesman Khan Wasay told media. “Security forces seized improvised explosive devices and weapons from houses in Darinjan Nalla during the search operation,” he added. According to the spokesman, the suspects were involved in bombing of gas pipelines and carrying out attacks on security forces in Dera Bugti.
