Parliamentary task forcesought to look after IDPs

ISLAMABAD: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Senior Minister Sirajul Haq on Tuesday called for the establishment of a parliamentary taskforce to look after half a million people displaced by the ongoing military offensive in North Waziristan Agency of FATA. Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, Haq, who is also emir of the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), termed the steps taken by the federal government for IDPs as “inadequate”. “A taskforce comprising parliamentary parties should be formed to oversee issues being faced by the internally displaced persons (IDPs),” he suggested. He demanded the federal government provide Rs 50,000 to each family rendered homeless by the operation. “It would have been better if the government had convened an APC (all-party conference) before launching the military offensive,” he added. “Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had not taken anybody into confidence about the failure of talks with the Taliban,” Sirajul Haq said.
