US special envoy for Af-Pak takes office





WASHINGTON: According to the State Department, US Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Dan Feldman, currently visiting Kabul, assumed charge of office on Friday, after his predecessor Ambassador James Dobbins concluded his tenure on July 31.
The statement said, “Feldman is charged with the same mandate as his predecessors: to align, focus, and implement policies and programmes that support U.S. national security interests in a secure, stable and prosperous Afghanistan and Pakistan.
He arrived in Kabul on Thursday to meet with the Afghan president Hamid Karzai as well as several Afghan political leaders and electoral officials.
