Police attack food and media vehicles

ISLAMABAD: Police force on duty in the Red Zone attacked the vehicles bringing in food items and water for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) activists on Sunday afternoon. As soon as the vehicles carrying food reached the Red Zone, a contingent of police attacked them in order to prevent the supply. The policemen smashed the windows and windscreens of the vehicles, while the drivers and others fled after seeing the police personnel moving towards them. The media persons covering the incident were also thrashed and their vehicles targeted. Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafiq, who happened to be nearby, rushed towards the police party to prevent them from this uncalled for provocation. Later, talking to the media, Saad Rafiq said he would inform the prime minister and the interior minister about the mishandling by the police force. Meanwhile, the Prime Minister’s Office lauded the role of the media and directed the authorities concerned to investigate the acts of violence against journalists.
