‘JUI-F will support Nawaz-led govt if democracy faces any threat’

Fazl says policy to ignore allies being followed

ISLAMABAD – Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam leader and Kashmir Committee Chairman Fazlur Rehman on Thursday said that his party would back Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif-led government in case of any attempt to destabilise democracy in Pakistan.

Despite ‘differences’ with the government on various issues, the JUI-F would stand by PML-N government and would back it if democracy faces any threat, he said while talking to journalists here.

When asked JUI-F is getting ministries as an ally party of the government, he said that portfolios did not matter when a party stands with stance and it becomes secondary issue. He also said that good governance was not being practiced in Pakistan, adding that there were so many problems with Nawaz government.

Fazl said it was government’s duty to take its allies on board but this was not being practiced and policy to ignore its allies was being followed. On dialogue process, the JUI-F chief said that serious efforts could bring positive results. Lashing out at Imran Khan, he said that PTI chief was still an immature and non-serious politician.

He said Imran Khan had been advocating Taliban’s stance but after getting pressure he now stands with the establishment. Earlier former chief justice Iftikhar Chaudhry was Imran’s hero but now he was speaking against him, he pointed out. He asked why Imran Khan was demanding rigging inquiry just in four constituencies. He also said that he (Imran) should raise the issue of rigging for nationwide.

On Jamaat-e-Islami’s tribal jirga, Fazl asserted that his party’s jirga was real representative of the tribal areas. He said the fake jirgas did not represent all tribes of the tribal areas while his jirga was final and the only one which provides mechanism.
