QUETTA: The Balochistan Assembly on Wednesday unanimously passed a resolution condemning media trial and levelling of false and baseless allegations against a national security institution.
The resolution was tabled jointly by Senior Minister Nawab Sanaullah Khan Zehri; Home Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti; provincial ministers Mir Izhar Hussain Khosa, Mir Sarfaraz Chakar Domki and Sheikh Jaffar Khan Mandokhel; and members Sardar Saleh Muhammad Bhootani, Prince Ahmed Ali, Tahir Mehmood Khan, Haji Muhammad Khan Lehri and Mir Amanullah Khan Notezai.
The resolution read, “This House recommends to the provincial government to approach the federal government for conducting [an] inquiry into the incident of life attempt on journalist, Hamid Mir, for which, a commission has been formed. The House strongly condemns the criticising and doing character assassination of an important national and defence institution, Inter-Services Intelligence, and its chief, Gen Zaheerul Islam, on the pretext of attack on Hamid Mir, as such negligence provided a chance to enemies of Pakistan to defame the country.” The resolution further said a section of media was involved in defaming the national security institutions. “This House also strongly flayed the hidden elements, who were trying to make our national security institutions controversial,” the resolution concluded.
Speaking on the resolution, Opposition Leader Maulana Abdul Wasey said levelling allegations against national security institutions was a wrong act. Shahida Rauf of JUI-F said, “Conducting media trial and levelling false accusations... for eight hours by a private TV channel is condemnable.”
