Sir: Pakistan is divided into two camps: those who are against the Taliban and those who support them. Regardless of the suicide bombings, bloodshed, indiscriminate killing of innocents, destruction of infrastructure, attacks on schools and health centres, repeated attacks on security forces, Pakistan’s right-wing politico-religious parties are firmly standing by the Taliban. Just two events from the current week are sufficient to prove this point. The chief of Pakistan’s largest religious party, the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), said that people like Osama bin Laden (OBL) are born in centuries. He said that OBL is still alive in the hearts of his people and his martyrdom will be remembered for years to come. In another event the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government stopped the launching ceremony of Malala Yousufzai’s biography, apparently for security reasons. It is sad that with each passing day Pakistan is plunging into unfathomable darkness while there is no one to take it out. Masood Khan Jubail, Saudi Arabia
