Sir: There is no uniformity in the education system of Pakistan. The medium of education is different in private and public sectors as well as in seminaries. The difference in the education system is creating a lot of disparity among the students. They think on different lines and have strikingly different approaches on how to live their lives. The education system on unequal lines is causing a rift among the youth. It is promoting sectarianism rather than minimising it. This is a basic reason for the high illiteracy rate in the country. Politicians do see it as a problem and they are analysing the scenario that our education system is heading nowhere. The shortage of schools all over the country is a major cause for concern. The government does know that neither educational funds are being equally distributed among all the educational institutes nor the educational system is uniform. Unfortunately, no measures are being taken to improve the situation. Our problems like sectarianism, political and social clashes, social inequality and a lack of unity on national issues will only destroy and demolish our society. If politicians seriously want to put pedal to the metal and solve all these issues, their first step should be a uniform education system.A uniform education system will help in developing a nation that will be self-reliant. It is high time the ruling authorities took this fact into account and built new schools and reformed existing ones to give equal opportunities to both the rich and the poor. The Minister for Education owes this responsibility and I request him to take notice of this situation and devise a uniform curriculum for all the educational institutions.AYESHA NAWAZIslamabad
