Sir: I am a student of one of the top universities of the country, Karachi University. This university is ranked among the best universities of the world. It is spread over 1,279 acres, having eight faculties and more than 55 departments and research centres. Currently approximately 80,000 students are attending this public sector university. These students coming from all over the country as well as out of the country face excessive problems due to poor and faulty infrastructure. Despite having such a vast land area, the authorities fail to provide basic necessities to the students, one of which is the lack of rooms for teachers to conduct their lectures. If a teacher by any chance gets a proper room in any department, he and the students have to face the problem of seating arrangements. There aren’t enough benches to accommodate all the students. Hence, some of the students are forced to sit on the floor in order to attend the lecture. The point to be noted here is that there is plenty of space in the campus. A lot of unused land could be seen here and there, which could be utilised effectively to increase the number of classrooms and then more benches could be installed in these new rooms. The concerned authorities should look into the matter and try their best to make education an easy task. NATASHA SHAFI SAAND Karachi
