The plight of the thirsty

The plight of the thirsty

Sir: Contaminated water and lack of sanitation affect people across Pakistan, particularly the poor people of Sindh province. Our past successive rulers and even the incumbent provincial rulers have done nothing to guarantee the fair and safe access to water that is needed to sustain lives and secure livelihoods. The teachings of all the holy books are loud and clear regarding the fate of an indifferent and insensitive ruling elite. Indeed, the most severe punishments have been promised for those who were indifferent to the plight of the poor.
However, the rulers are requested to devise such schemes, frame such water policies and launch such water saving programmes that make sense and are about more than saving ecosystems and human lives. It is also about saving our souls.
