Sir: The increase in seismic activity in the region is very worrisome indeed. Just yesterday, jolts were felt throughout Lahore and other parts of Punjab. This has been going on for the past few months with a number of small earthquakes being felt throughout the region. This is not a good omen. It seems as though the ground is readying itself for a devastating event and we, as usual, are ill-prepared to deal with that kind of catastrophe. The government needs to contemplate taking some serious measures to best deal with the worst-case scenario. Teams of building inspectors need to go from vicinity to vicinity to see which buildings are unsafe for habitation during an earthquake. Public awareness campaigns need to be initiated educating the public on what best to do in the event of a natural disaster. Sitting on our hands will achieve nothing. The signs are all there.
