Sir: Pakistan is enriched with culture, art, architecture, sports, literature and language; they make Pakistan culturally diverse. These languages hold a different kind of significance in them. Influence of the west has been so great that regional languages have not been enjoying the same popularity. We are constantly breaking away from traditions and we are becoming much more unaware of our cultural values each day. What once was treasure, now is history. Regional languages help us find our original culture and root us back to the place to which we belong.?The rich Sindhi poetry, the tales of Heer Ranjha and Sussi Punu and Balochi and Pashto literature are lost to the new generation. They are well accustomed to societal languages like Urdu and now English. Folk songs, literature, spiritual and inspirational quotes are not cherished anymore by acquiring them as knowledge. What we fail to understand is that these languages are a part of us and we should not forget them. Rather, we should preserve and revive them. Golden time periods and civilizations are penned down in these languages. Poets like Sachal Sarmad, Sultan Bahu, Jam Darag and Amir Khusro have taken poetry to a whole new level. It is indeed saddening that the new generation is so far away from golden literature and the true, rich culture Pakistan has to offer. MISHA RIZVI Karachi
