Sir: Pakistan’s growth rate of internet users is second highest in the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) countries. Pakistan’s growth rate is 16.8 percent as compared to 28.3 percent in Maldives, 7.5 percent in India, 12.1 percent in Sri Lanka, and 13.6 percent in Bhutan. According to Internet Service Providers Association of Pakistan, the estimated internet users have reached 25 million, thanks to broadband and mobile phone operators.Branchless and mobile banking has made internet an asset. Now the government should also work on installing a Firewalls system to control objectionable and indecent material on the internet, just like countries such as China, the United Arab Emirates and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have done. In this way, the government can minimize the harmful impact of the internet and make it more productive. S. Reza MerchantVia Email
