Sir: Social media is surely a blessing but nowadays we can observe some disadvantages in our generation. The youth have become slaves to the ongoing trends of the social media. One of them is the famous Hollywood celebrity “Kylie Jenner trend”, i.e. a person, usually a female, has to post or send her picture similar to Kylie Jenner’s pout. Now this might seem harmless but in order to achieve the perfect Kylie pout, many people have injured their mouth or lips in this process. Girls are using suction techniques to get the look of swollen lips. This has resulted in swelling and bruises on the participants’ mouths. Some of them are even proud of their bruises and are posting pictures as if it is a heroic act. This is nonsensical and plain recklessness, and our generation is busy destroying their facial structure while copying a celebrity. This has gone way out of line as a person is supposed to be comfortable and confident with his/her appearance; instead our youth is busy trying to prove that they can be more attractive by indulging in some futile challenge, which is resulting in injuries and scars. Dear youth, you all are striking in your own special ways, stop hurting and humiliating yourselves. SYEDA RAFIA IMRAN Karachi
