Sir: We know that the government after facing heavy criticism has decided to readjust inflated electricity bills that were sent to consumers last month. It is said that the increase was necessitated by the directives of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for us to receive the fifth tranche of our loan. However the government, making the right decision, resolved to look for other alternatives to fulfil the IMF’s demands. Instead of sticking to its earlier harsh decision the government gave some weight to public opinion and took pity on the state of our already burdened electricity consumers. This reflects a healthy, democratic and public oriented style of governance. It is hoped that in the future too, our government will keep this up rather than following the old trend of stubborn politics. FARVAT MALIKLahore
