Sir: Congratulations to our neighbouring India for successfully completing its mission to orbit a spacecraft around Mars. While India is still in the embryonic stages of its space programme, this triumphant expedition that succeeded where many other leading countries have failed despite several attempts and the low cost of the mission (which turned out to be cheaper than the making of the movie ‘Gravity’) are highly commendable. Whereas India is exploring emerging markets, bolstering economic development and strengthening ties with dominant powers of the world, we are being advertised as a nation of religious fundamentalists, engaged in dubious conspiracies and purposeless dharnas (sit-ins) while patronising strategic assets (i.e. ‘good’ Taliban and jihadist groups).
