Sir: There is no let up in bad news concerning the deadly Ebola virus that is ravaging West Africa. Almost 10,000 people have been infected worldwide with most of the cases being reported from the African countries of Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone. Out of these almost 5,000 people have died. That is a 50 percent fatality rate. Only a tiny spattering of cases has been reported from other countries but it is West Africa that should hold the spotlight. We cannot afford to ignore the fact that Ebola is a fast moving sickness that has no respect for borders or rules. If we fail to help the people of West Africa, we will effectively fail to help reverse a global spread of the virus. That would be a death warrant for a sizeable chunk of the world’s population. It is time to set aside race and nationality differences. We must work to beat Ebola in Africa to beat the virus worldwide. REHAN GHANIaLahore
