Sir: I want to bring to the notice of the federal and provincial governments the unreasonable prices of tomatoes, which are being sold at the rate of Rs 80 per kg. This basic ingredient of daily use is becoming out of the reach of the poor. Due to the import of tomatoes, it is being sold at high rates. But the government is showing negligence to control its prices. It should be available below the rate of Rs 40 per kg. The traders are earning hefty profits by hoarding this commodity. The government needs to take notice and ensure the sale of tomatoes at reasonable prices before the start of Ramazan. It is very unfortunate that before the start of the holy month, traders arbitrarily increase the prices of daily use commodities, while the government acts as a silent spectator, which is more painful for the general public.
