Sir: In Pakistan, drug production and addiction have increased in the last 20 years. Internationally, Balochistan is known for its backwardness and has been facing many challenges. According to a news report released by a US-based organisation, 0.28 million young Baloch are drug addicts. This shows the gloomy picture of the province. Territorially, Balochistan is connected to two neighbouring countries, i.e. Afghanistan and Iran, from where drugs are smuggled into Pakistan. Regional smugglers use this province as a route for drug trafficking. Drugs are openly sold and exported in huge quantities to various countries via Balochistan. There is a sense of foreboding that upcoming generations will get involved in drug abuse. The government and concerned authorities, especially anti-drug forces, are required to take stern action against drug peddlers in Balochistan.SADIA KHALIDKarachi
