Sindh government somersaults Sir: Now the Sindh government says no children died due to hunger in Thar. If there was hunger why did men and women not die, goes the eccentric logic of the people in the upper echelons of power in Sindh. This flies in the face of the Chief Minister’s earlier statements that the failure of assorted organs of the Sindh government resulted in the deaths of the children. While then there were verbal somersaults by spokesmen trying to prove that no child died due to hunger, a little while later, the Sindh government admitted its culpability in not reaching out to the vulnerable children and apologised for its incompetence. What is this? Is there anyone to check the heads of these boys playing with the lives and destinies of the Sindhi people? Why is the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leadership allowing the old guard to cling to positions in the cabinet? What will Pakistan and the wider world think about the people of Sindh and its elected representatives, who say a thing one minute and contradict the same statement a few moments later? What will the civilised world think about the people of Sindh’s boasts of representing a 5,000 year old culture if they themselves are being represented by such people? This is the time for the people of Sindh to rethink their present leadership, that has imposed the most incompetent and inefficient officials, without a modicum of accountability, to ride roughshod on the fragile backs of the Sindhi masses.
