Sir: I received my home electricity bill (Ref. # 09111150709301U) on January 25 with the meter reading showing 17,321 units consumed. To verify the reading I personally checked the reading and it turned out to be around 17,317 units. I contacted the concerned SDO on his cell number, which was printed on the bill with an instruction that the officer could be contacted for any complaints other than electricity supply failure. I told the officer about the situation and asked him to suggest the solution. He replied that he was not a call centre agent and that I should file my complaint with 118 helpline. I contacted the helpline to lodge the complaint, but the customer services agent refused to accept my complaint saying that the helpline is reserved for electricity failure complaints only. It was not the first time that the electricity meter reading had been overstated in my area. All my complaints to the SDO and XEN that I lodged by going to them personally fell on deaf ears. No action has been taken. It seems that the meter readers are doing this dirty work in connivance with the concerned SDO and XEN. It also seems a ploy to cover the revenue lost in power theft and line losses by extracting extra sums from innocent consumers. I am sure I may not be the only sufferer at the hands of the Lahore Electricity Supply Corporation (LESCO). The indifference and cold attitude of LESCO is forcing me to take the matter into my own hands and teach a lesson to the meter reader in my own way. Atif K Butt Lahore
